Take Me Away

Timothy - This song was written in two different sections. The riff that is played by the mandolin and acoustic guitar was created when Tim and our producer Roger Butterly were jamming late one night. They recorded the first version of the chords around one mic and added the bass part later. The song sat on the shelf for months until Tim had an idea for the chorus. He thought the melody was so beautiful it took him away to someplace special. Thus the idea for the chorus and hook “Take Me Away” was born.

The chorus was quickly written by Tim and Dominic, and Aaron then wrote the verses specifically for Catherine. We knew Catherine was perfect for this but it took many takes of the song to lay it down because she was so moved by it she couldn’t sing it without becoming emotional. (Her fiancee had recently joined the Army and had moved away so she really identified with the lyrics.) This song is also one of our favorites on the album because it speaks to a simpler time in first relationships and an innocence which has mostly disappeared from our culture.
